Food Safety
Serving food people trust is foundational to being a trusted brand. Across Yum!, we focus on strengthening food safety systems, offering choices that meet evolving preferences and expectations, and working with suppliers to advance responsible sourcing and animal welfare. Because our brands serve diverse menus across many markets, we combine global standards with strong local execution.
Maintaining food safety and quality is essential to protecting customers, upholding trust in our brands and supporting public health. Our approach is built on three core pillars: globally approved suppliers and standards; strong, consistent restaurant practices supported by audits; and ongoing training to build team capability. Over the past several years, Yum! has strengthened its ability to assess restaurants and suppliers through the use of technology and enhanced visibility across operations, from consumer-facing apps to back-of-house systems.
In 2025, we strengthened governance by reconstituting Yum!’s Global Food Safety Council, a cross-brand, cross-functional forum that aligns priorities, assesses emerging risks and shares best practices. The Council also includes an external advisor, adding perspective as risks continue to evolve across the industry and supply chains.
We continued to advance supplier assurance through Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)-recognized certifications. Yum! joined the Consumer Goods Forum in 2022, supporting the transition to 100% GFSI-recognized certification for all required suppliers and distributors. This transition helps strengthen global food safety standards while enabling greater focus on risk management and supplier development. We also maintained robust restaurant audit programs, with at least two audits per restaurant annually, alongside the continued use of remote audits to supplement in-person verification.
