Yum! Brands has joined the Hispanic Promise, a national pledge to hire, promote, retain and celebrate Hispanics in the workplace. This action is a testament to one of Yum!’s core values, “believe in ALL people,” and a continuation of the company’s efforts to take thoughtful and strategic actions to ensure employees can truly be their best selves.
“I had the opportunity to represent Yum! when I spoke at the Hispanic Leadership Summit a few weeks ago and was proud to announce that our company had signed onto this pledge,” said Anamaria Rodriguez, Pizza Hut International chief food innovation and quality officer. “It’s a dream come true that Yum! is leading in this space by taking the intentional action of signing onto the Hispanic Promise!”
This declaration represents one of many ways Yum! is advancing its diversity and inclusion efforts. Development courses, such as the CEO-led Inspiring Others to Fuel Results, are focused on unlocking every employee’s potential, which includes educating employees to lead with authenticity and inspire others in ways that are meaningful to them. The company is also expanding its unconscious bias training program, Inclusive Leadership, to all above-restaurant employees and franchisees.
“We believe that a diverse workplace not only cultivates a sense of belonging, but enables us to be more innovative and provides us with a competitive advantage,” said James Fripp, Yum! chief diversity and inclusion officer. “It’s for this reason that joining initiatives like Hispanic Promise is integral to our business strategy and embodies our core belief in ALL people.”
Yum! continues its work to advance women to senior roles and achieve gender parity in leadership globally by 2030, in alignment with the Paradigm for Parity coalition. In fact, in the past 18 months, Yum!, KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell have made more progress than in the previous 10 years in this space, with approximately 40% of global leadership positions held by women in 2018. That same year, CEO Greg Creed signed onto the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion, a coalition of CEOs committed to creating workplaces that address diversity and inclusion head-on.
“Our commitments and goals to these and other commitments have inspired our leaders and our associates to make tangible progress,” said Fripp. “We’re on a journey, but I’m proud of the work we’ve done.” Read more on how Yum! is fostering a more inclusive workplace here.
