Yum! Brands and the University of Louisville Announce First-of-its-Kind Education and Research Center to Unlock Opportunities in Franchising for Underrepresented People of Color and Women
(May 26, 2021) Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE: YUM) and the University of Louisville today announced the launch of the Yum! Center for Global Franchise Excellence. The Center will feature the first business program of its kind at a public university to provide existing and potential franchisees multiple levels of online education focused on the franchising model across industries. In addition, the Yum! Center for Global Franchise Excellence will focus on recruiting and educating underrepresented people of color and women on the possibilities of franchising as a pathway to entrepreneurship.

(August 27, 2020) KFC announced the appointment of John Mays as director of equity and inclusion for KFC U.S. In this newly formed role, Mays will lead the development and implementation of KFC’s equity and inclusion vision and strategy to help position the brand as an industry leader across the United States.

Brands announced a $100 million commitment over the next five years toward unlocking opportunity for employees, frontline restaurant teams and communities across KFC and our sister companies, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and The Habit Burger Grill. This endeavor is intended to focus on equality with an emphasis on the key areas of equity and inclusion, education and entrepreneurship. We also committed to transparency to our customers and team members, so today we are sharing the next steps that KFC has begun to take.
