At Yum! Brands, we have long been committed to reducing our environmental impact, including minimizing deforestation risk. To further support making progress toward no deforestation and using our scale to positively impact the broader industry, we endorsed the New York Declaration on Forests (NYDF) and expanded our commitments to all four commodities including palm, timber, soy and beef.

“As our business continues to grow, doing so in a way that respects the planet is more important than ever and that’s especially true when it comes to sustainable sourcing in our supply chain,” said Jon Hixson, Yum! vice president of Global Government Affairs and Sustainability. “We believe that endorsing the New York Declaration on Forests is an important step forward as we continue on our path to achieve no deforestation.”

The NYDF brings together governments, multinational companies, civil society and indigenous peoples who strive to eliminate deforestation. As we continue on our deforestation journey, it’s a priority to work with strategic partners who share our forest stewardship vision like the NYDF.

“The NYDF Global Platform is thrilled to add Yum! Brands as an endorser of the New York Declaration on Forests. Increased endorsement by a variety of stakeholder groups, including the private sector, sends a message to the global community that forest protection is urgent and crucial to meeting our climate and sustainable development goals,” said Nicole DeSantis, United Nations Development Programme, on behalf of NYDF Global Platform. “We hope by adding more leading brands like Yum! as endorsers of the NYDF that this will catalyze action and multi-stakeholder collaboration to minimize and eliminate deforestation from the production of agricultural commodities for a more sustainable future.”

We remain focused on making progress in this area and will continue our comprehensive voluntary disclosure through CDP Forests. More information about all of Yum!’s sustainability efforts can be found at citizenship.yum.com.
