A Commitment to Louisville-Area Racial Justice Initiatives
Category: Unlocking Opportunities
(September 3, 2020) At KFC, we call Louisville, Kentucky home. Our secret recipe chicken was born and “breaded” in Kentucky more than 70 years ago, and Louisville is where we’re still headquartered today.
Those of us who call the Louisville area home know our city is special. We’re made up of community members and organizations who care. We also know that Louisville is a city currently on the national and global stage. Our community faces many challenges, and our people simply deserve better. As a brand rooted here, KFC has a passion to make meaningful change.
We’re on a journey to do our part to drive equality. In June, together with our parent company Yum! Brands, we announced a $100 Million commitment toward unlocking opportunity in the key areas of equity and inclusion, education and entrepreneurship. And it starts in our hometown. That’s why Yum! and KFC are investing $6 million over five years right here in Louisville to fight inequality and uplift Black students, educators, entrepreneurs and social change agents in our local community that we love.
Organizations we’ll partner with include The Academy of Music Production Education and Development (AMPED), Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), Simmons College of Kentucky, University of Louisville, and Black L.O.V.E. But it’s not just about funding. We intend to work hand-in-hand with them to develop programs and initiatives that will provide grants to Black entrepreneurs and non-profits, help students achieve college credits and degrees, recruit and train more African American teachers to enter the Jefferson County Public School System, strengthen Black-led social institutions and drive economic growth.
We’re proud of this commitment. But now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work to bring these partnerships to life in a way that will serve up greater opportunity and drive real change. We continue to hold ourselves accountable and will be transparent with our progress and actions.
There’s more to come. Thanks for your continued support of KFC.
