KFC Commits to Racial Justice Initiatives

Today, Yum! Brands announced a $100 million commitment over the next five years toward unlocking opportunity for employees, frontline restaurant teams and communities across KFC and our sister companies, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and The Habit Burger Grill. This endeavor is intended to focus on equality with an emphasis on the key areas of equity and inclusion, education and entrepreneurship.
This is a watershed moment in the journey toward racial equality, a cause to which we are deeply committed at KFC. We also recognize that, as a brand in America, KFC has a role to play in standing against racism and racial inequality. On June 3, we made a public commitment to do more, not just for our employees and franchisees, but for our customers and communities as well. We have a lot of work to do, and while we don’t yet have all the answers, we have spent the last few weeks listening and learning so we can be a part of the solution.
We also committed to transparency to our customers and team members, so today we are sharing the next steps that KFC has begun to take:
- Continuing our Listening Tour on diversity and inclusion with employees across the organization through virtual town halls, panel discussions and roundtables. To date, we have conducted approximately a dozen roundtables spanning franchisees, corporate employees and restaurant managers in every region across America, with more coming in the upcoming weeks.
- Hiring a Director of Equity and Inclusion, a new corporate position, that will work closely with the KFC U.S. Leadership Team to develop and launch a comprehensive D&I strategy to drive change internally and externally. We also plan to accelerate the advancement of these efforts inside our brand, across our organization and beyond the business into the communities we serve.
- Launching a Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) President’s Advisory Council comprised of key individuals across KFC Corporation who will partner with our Equity and Inclusion leader to evaluate and address racial equality issues and activations plans, and help guide the strategic plans with the Leadership Team.
- Building community relationships and supporting social justice efforts, both nationally and locally. In addition to today’s $100M commitment, KFC is immediately pledging $1M to financially support national justice initiatives with direct input from our restaurant managers. In addition, we are partnering with local organizations that support Black communities across the country, including Change Today, Change Tomorrow.
- Evaluating policies and brand communications to make sure they represent KFC’s values and the customers we serve, and reinforce a welcoming and inclusive environment for every team member and customer.
- Evolving our recent partnerships with organizations focused on the development of minority talent, including Prospanica, NBMBAA and ADFC. In partnership with these organizations, we’ll make KFC more visible and develop talent attraction strategies and specialized training.
KFC is a diverse group of people, and we have the privilege of serving people of every race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and background. We intend to increase our focus on providing inclusive training and education opportunities, and developing diverse leaders and franchisees to ensure the brand reflects our team member and customer demographics, and diverse voices play a bigger part in making KFC a place for positive change.These are just the first of many actions we plan to take, but KFC is in this for the long-term, and we are committed to doing more. We hold ourselves accountable and will continue to be transparent with our progress and our actions. Thank you for your continued support of KFC.
