KFC is celebrating 30 years since it opened its first restaurant in Thailand this month – and they have invited The Colonel (or a close runner-up) to join them in the celebration!

From March 28th to April 30th, KFC will be celebrating “30 years in delighting Thais”. This campaign will be complete with in-store promotions, social media and television ads.

“This will be a brand campaign to connect with consumers,” said KFC Thailand Marketing Director Thunyachate Ekvetchavit. “We want to celebrate this important occasion with the people who made it happen, that is, with consumers from everywhere in Thailand.”

In addition to saying thanks to fans, the brand hopes to spark young adults’ curiosity about the man behind the 11 herbs and spices. One way they’re doing that is with a 30th anniversary app that lets fans snap a selfie with an image of the Colonel, then share the photo on their social networks.

Some fans will have a chance to take in-person photos with or even have their KFC meals served by a Colonel impersonator, who’s been prompting double takes since arriving in Bangkok. Wearing the famous white suit, black tie and glasses, the impersonator has been spotted throughout the city, drawing a crowd wherever he stops.

In-restaurant and delivery promotions include limited edition 30th anniversary coolers and water bottles, available for customers to purchase with their meals until April 30.

At the end of the campaign, ten lucky customers will win a trip to Kentucky to visit the Colonel Sanders Museum and see the birthplace of KFC. The winners will be selected from customers who submit codes from their receipts via text- message, internet or the KFC FreeTrip app.

“KFC helps create So Good moments and brings people together,” said Ekvetchavit . “Sharing this 30th anniversary with everyone is how KFC Thailand intends to express its gratitude to all its employees and loyal customers for their support.”

Watch customers’ surprise when Colonel Sanders, nicknamed “Uncle Ken” in Thailand, delivers their meal:

Yum! Thailand’s “We Hear Every Dream” program has earned an honorable mention for the ESCAP-Sasakawa Award, which recognizes companies for their commitment to disability-inclusive working environments, products and services.

The award was developed through a partnership by the United Nations, Nippon Foundation and Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability. Organization representatives honored Yum! and other recipients at a ceremony Dec. 3, 2013.

The “We Hear Every Dream” program provides KFC career opportunities to the hearing-impaired. In order to reach their goal of hiring 70 percent specially-abled staff, the brand outfitted a restaurant with new machines, equipment and a special management system.

Hearing-impaired associates receive extensive training on order-taking procedures and understanding customer preferences. Their fellow employees receive training in how to communicate with the hearing-impaired and provide assistance when needed.

The ESCAP-Sasakawa honorable mention is not the first recognition Yum! Thailand has received for “We Hear Every Dream.” The KFC team also won the 2012 Excellence Award of Disability Empowerment from the Business Sector from The National Office for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
