RAUL YZAGUIRRE CHARTER SCHOOL FOR SUCCESS RECEIVES KFC GRANT

Partnership Will Kick-off Kids ‘N Arts Program Celebrating the Houston Community

HOUSTON, TX, May 11, 2006 - KFC, in partnership with the National Council of La Raza, is providing funding for five NCLR-affiliated schools nationwide. The purpose of the Kids ‘N Arts Program is to engage students, parents, and the community in the development and implementation of a school-wide art project that celebrates their community.

We are thrilled to be the recipient of this grant and everyone involved with the project has worked very aggressively to ensure our project is worthy of the funds we were awarded,” said Carlos Rodriguez, Principal for Raul Yzaguiree Charter School.

In order to receive these grants, schools had to submit a proposal of their project. The project needed to focus on a celebratory or culminating experience. Raul Yzaguiree received the award based on their proposed presentation of a ballet Folklorico dance program involving all dance class levels. The culminating project will be presented at the Folklorico Festival of North Texas where it will be professionally judged on choreography and performance. The performance will be given the evening of May 11.

“NCLR recognizes the importance of strengthening education in its own communities. The funding provided by KFC has given us another avenue to continue to build this strength through both community and parental involvement with the students,” commented Luis Genao, Senior Director at NCLR.

It is a privilege to sponsor this event and celebrate art in the Houston community,” said Alfredo Martel, Director, DMA Excellence for KFC. “It is always a wonderful experience to witness the talents and abilities of young people.”
