
PIZZA HUT® AND WINGSTREET® DELIVER SUPPORT TO BUTLER STREET YMCA
ATLANTA, April 20, 2006 - The Butler Street YMCA announced today that through a unique opportunity with Pizza Hut, Inc, WingStreet and KISS 104.1, the annual giving campaign will continue through September. The Butler Street YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign raises much needed funds to sustain and improve services provided to the community through its youth, family and after-school programs. KISS 104.1 will distribute specially designated coupons throughout the summer at the Wednesday Wind Down Concert Series at Centennial Olympic Park sponsored by Pizza Hut and WingStreet. Coupons will also be available at all Butler Street YMCA locations and participating Pizza Hut and WingStreet locations throughout Metro Atlanta. Twenty percent (20%) of the total gross sales generated from the redemption of this fundraising coupon at Pizza Hut and WingStreet locations will be presented directly to the Butler Street YMCA during the Wednesday Wind Down Concert on September 13, 2006.
“With your help, we can continue our programs of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities,” said Sonny Walker, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Butler Street YMCA. Mr. Walker also went on to say, “The Butler Street YMCA has to be preserved for what it has done in the past, what it’s doing now, and what it will do in the future.” The Butler Street YMCA provides after-school programs, youth and family memberships, summer programs, youth sport activities, swimming and computer classes, mobile fitness/nutrition classes and much more.
There are a total of seven heritage YMCA’s in the United States managed and operated by African Americans of which the Butler Street YMCA is one such entity. Community leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Vernon Jordan were enriched by time spent at the Butler Street Y. The Butler Street YMCA started Atlanta’s first citywide forum, “The Hungry Club Forum,” in 1945. The forum still meets weekly and has become one of America’s outstanding public affairs programs. Its motto is "Food For Taste and Food For Thought For Those Who Hunger For Information and Association.”
