Yum! Brands Foundation
As a global restaurant company, our goal is to feed the world—especially those who are at risk of going to bed hungry. With nearly 43,000 restaurants in more than 130 countries and territories, the world is our community, which is why the Yum! Brands Foundation funds charitable organizations that are working to solve hunger both locally and around the globe.
We also support organizations that are important to our associates and our franchise partners in the areas of arts, education, social services and diversity. To promote employee giving, the Yum! Brands Foundation manages annual workplace giving campaigns and matching gift programs. Associate and board member contributions to qualifying organizations are matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000 annually. Additionally, the Foundation encourages associates to serve on local nonprofit boards by providing financial support to those organizations.

Community Hunger Programs
Dare to Care Food Bank is our local hunger partner and the Yum! Brands Foundation provides up to $1 million annually to support their operations throughout Louisville, Kentucky and Southern Indiana. In 2015, Dare to Care distributed over 16 million meals to those in need through their Community Kitchen, Kids Café, Backpack Buddy and Mobile Pantry programs. Yum! Brands also supported Dare to Care by fundraising and participating in the food bank’s annual Hunger Walk and Voyageur Canoe World Championship. Since 2002, the Yum! Brands Foundation has donated over $13 million to Dare to Care provide more than 52 million meals in our hometown.
The Yum! Brands Foundation is proud to sponsor the Yum! Family Series providing over 100,000 arts experiences annually for youth in our community who would not otherwise have that opportunity. The program focuses on enhancing cultural, economic, racial and age diversity of audiences and has made the arts more readily available to these traditionally underserved groups and individuals. With more than seventy percent of the students in our public school system on free and reduced lunch programs, these performances are often the students’ first point of entry to the arts. Students also participate in preshow workshops for a more hands-on experience with the arts. The goal of the Yum! Family Series is to help bring these young minds together through theatre experiences to celebrate, challenge and explore who they are.
“This was an incredible artistic experience. Many of my students cannot otherwise afford to attend the theater and you made a Dickens text accessible and interesting for them.”
(A Christmas Carol, Waggerner High School)
“The reason I bring our students to Dracula every year is because for so many it is the first play they have seen, and for almost 100% of them, it is their first experience of seeing a play and not being bored! They love this play every year!
(Dracula, Bullitt East High School)
As a leading global restaurant company, we understand how to build people capability. It is our privilege and responsibility to share that development know-how by supporting programs that inspire and unlock potential in other professionals throughout our community. The Louisville Leadership Center’s Yum! IGNITES Louisville Challenge prepares high-potential professionals to expand their career and personal opportunities through community leadership. As part of the challenge, each team is paired with a local non-profit to execute a project that will be judged by a panel in a competition for grant money.
The Yum! Brands Foundation also encourages our community’s young professionals to volunteer and give back to their local community through a partnership with the Young Professional’s Association of Louisville (YPAL). The Yum! Brands Foundation is the proud presenting sponsor of two Community Connections events where YPAL members build their knowledge and professional networks through informal meetings with local non-profit organizations. These events provide a great opportunity for young professionals to explore volunteer programs while non-profits look to engage the next generation of leaders in our community.
We cannot predict when disaster strikes, but it is our responsibility to mobilize quickly when it does. In the spirit of having a huge heart, Yum! Brands, our associates, franchisees and external partners assist with national and global relief efforts in the event of a natural disaster.
Our teams demonstrate their huge hearts by either providing hot meals, financial assistance, or their time when it is needed. For example, in 2016, the Yum! Brands Foundation provided over $50,000 in aid for relief efforts following the tragic Chennai floods in India and other natural disasters occurring here in the United States. In addition to this support, the Yum! Brands Foundation also partners with the United Nations World Food Programme to allocate funds raised in our World Hunger Relief program to assist with relief efforts overseas.
