Yum! Brands Creates First Global Customer Appreciation Day to Celebrate Customers and Recognize Restaurant Leaders for Providing Great Service *** A&W All-American Food, KFC, Long John Silver’s, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell Restaurants Nominate Best Customers – Winners Receive Year’s Supply of Food

LOUISVILLE, KY, October 07, 2004 – Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE: YUM) today announced it is holding its first Global Customer Appreciation Day as a way to celebrate customers and recognize restaurant leaders that are providing great customer service. The company chose to announce the winners today as part of the celebration of the seventh anniversary of its formation as a new company.

Thousands of Restaurant General Managers (RGMs), across the U.S. from each brand — A&W All-American Food, KFC, Long John Silver’s, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell — nominated their best customers. One national winner from each brand receives a year’s supply of free food and the restaurants that nominated them will receive $1,000 each to share among employees. Yum! Brands has approximately 6.5 billion annual customers around the world.

Additionally, the company is recognizing the top five Restaurant General Managers, one from each brand. The outstanding RGMs were selected based on their CHAMPS scores that take into account the key measures Cleanliness, Hospitality, Accuracy, Maintenance, Product Quality and Speed.

“Global Customer Appreciation Day is a way to let our customers know how much we value them,” said David Novak, Chairman and CEO, Yum! Brands. “It is also about recognizing our number-one leaders, our Restaurant General Managers, and the hard-working teams that put a Yum! on customers’ faces around the world,” added Novak.

In 2001, Yum! launched Customer Mania to build a worldwide culture dedicated to providing great customer satisfaction. The company trains its more than 840,000 associates around the globe four times a year in Customer Mania, teaching the key elements that drive great customer satisfaction and put a Yum! on customers’ faces around the world. A 100 percent score for all six measures is considered a satisfactory score.

The winning customers of the year include: A&W customers Kevin and Maureen Axelson in Kansas; KFC customer Rayford Byers in North Carolina; Long John Silver’s customer Mark Butcher in Indiana; Pizza Hut customer Michael Steward in Pennsylvania; and Taco Bell customer Shirley Murphy in Missouri.
