KFC has announced the opening of its first restaurant in Rome, located in the city’s popular Roma Est mall. The opening marks Italy’s first experience with the delicious chicken recipes that have delighted millions of customers around the world for decades.

“KFC is an iconic brand loved around the world and we are thrilled to be bringing this exciting concept to Italian consumers,” said Corrado Cagnola, Market Director KFC Italy. “We are convinced that Italians will love our great-tasting quality recipes made with real chicken and the unique customer experience we offer. We are also very proud to be opening our first KFC restaurant with franchise partner Francesco Fuga, a seasoned restaurant professional.”

“I’m truly excited to open the first KFC restaurant in Italy,” said Francesco Fuga, KFC franchisee. “We have created over 50 new jobs and each employee receives training on how to make KFC’s handmade chicken recipes. Italian customers will be pleased to learn that all our products are hand breaded and cooked in our kitchen. We look forward to serving customers a truly outstanding food experience.”

The KFC menu will feature the irresistible Original Recipe® chicken sandwiches including the Twister, Boss, Boxmaster and Double Krunch, as well as the Brazer, an oven-baked chicken innovation. In addition to sandwiches, KFC will offer customers the opportunity to share a meal with a KFC Bucket featuring Crispy Tenders (filet strips), Hot Wings or whole pieces of fresh chicken. Children’s menus will also be available, as well as salads, including an Italian cheese salad; sides, including fries, corn and salad; desserts; and Illy coffee. KFC will offer Pepsi and other beverages, becoming the first quick-service restaurant to offer customers free refills on fountain drinks. Menus will start at 5 euros.

The restaurant features a contemporary, youthful design and seating for 300, with 180 seats inside and 120 on a terrace. The terrace includes a children’s play area. It is located on the ground floor opposite the entrance to the cinema in Roma Est mall.

KFC will accelerate its restaurant expansion with additional franchise partners in Italy. The brand plans to open a second location in Turin on Nov. 27 with an ambition to open five additional locations across Italy by the end of 2015.
