Diversity Drives Culture and Business at World's Largest Restaurant Company

LOUISVILLE, KY, August 20, 2009 – Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE: YUM), the world’s largest restaurant company and parent of KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s and A&W Restaurants, has received The National Society of Hispanic MBAs’ (NSHMBA) 2009 Brillante Award for Corporate Excellence. According to the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA), the Brillante Award for Corporate Excellence is the organization’s most prestigious honor, and is presented to a corporation whose work and contributions reflect the organization’s mission to foster Hispanic leadership through graduate management education and professional development.

“NSHMBA’s Brillante recognition acknowledges Yum!’s diversity culture and passion for growing next generation leaders,” says Terrian Barnes, Yum! Global Diversity and Inclusion Officer. “Our strategic relationship with NSHMBA, including its local chapters, provides a genuine competitive business advantage for our brands and helps further our commitment to attracting, retaining and developing top talent.”

Since 2005, Yum! has partnered with NSHMBA to create “NSHMBA U”, an annual leadership development retreat, hosted at Yum! corporate headquarters, for the organization’s National Chapter President and its Board of Directors. Company Chief Officers share coaching insights and offer personal leadership perspectives.

The National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) was created in 1988 as a 501(C)(3) non–profit organization. Widely known as the “Premier Hispanic Organization,” NSHMBA serves 32 chapters and 8,000 members in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. It exists to foster Hispanic leadership through graduate management education and professional development. NSHMBA works to prepare Hispanics for leadership positions throughout the U.S., so that they can provide the cultural awareness and sensitivity vital in the management of the nation’s diverse workforce.

Yum! Brands, Inc., based in Louisville, Kentucky, is the world’s largest restaurant company in terms of system restaurants, with more than 36,000 restaurants in more than 110 countries and territories. The company is ranked #239 on the Fortune 500 List, with revenues in excess of $11 billion in 2008. Four of the company’s restaurant brands – KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Long John Silver’s – are the global leaders of the chicken, pizza, Mexican–style food and quick–service seafood categories, respectively. Outside the United States, the Yum! Brands system opened more than four new restaurants each day of the year, making it the leader in international retail development. The company has consistently been recognized for its reward and recognition culture, diversity leadership, community giving, and consistent shareholder returns. For the second year, the company launched the world’s largest private sector hunger relief effort in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme and other hunger relief agencies. To date, this effort is helping to save approximately 4 million people in remote corners of the world, where hunger is most prevalent.
