KFC South Africa launched an exciting end-of-year campaign in 2014 called ‘Tag A Buddy, Win a Bucket’ on social media. In efforts to reach a broader community and leverage peer social nominations to drive platform growth, this unique campaign incentivised KFC fans to get their friends involved for a chance to WIN a 21-piece bucket of KFC’s Original Recipe chicken. They were asked to tag a buddy on KFC South Africa’s Facebook page or Tweet their friends handle, and tell the brand why this friend deserves a bucket.By encouraging fans to share their love, KFC was able to achieve significant growth across social platforms in just eighteen days. For the first time ever, KFC Australia opened 12 KFC outlets at Cricket Stadiums across the country during the Cricket World Cup which drew a crowd of 90,000 fans at its opening game. The World Cup introduced the opportunity to provide great quality product and service to Cricket fans in a stadium setting. Customers in Bracknell, England are the first to experience KFC UK’s new restaurant design concept, one that’s as cutting-edge as the Original Recipe is classic.The brand unveiled the fresh interior makeover Nov. 4. The new style features exposed ceilings and textured walls, along with photographs and artwork reflecting the ingredients used across KFC’s menu. Butcher block and timber plank kitchen tables, copper light fixtures, and loose furniture lend an informal, stylish feeling to the space.

The changes aren’t just aesthetic: back of house upgrades will create faster speed of service, and a semi open-plan kitchen will allow diners to watch as their meals are prepared.

KFC Creative Design Manager Jade Swaby said the new design was inspired by families and friends coming together around the kitchen table to share fresh food. “We wanted the design to reflect the fact that, unlike many ‘fast food’ restaurants, at KFC cooks prepare and make fresh food, from scratch, every day – so the sense of the kitchen being the heart of the home really influenced the authentic, inviting design,” explained Swaby.

Two additional restaurants are currently undergoing a similar redesign, with plans for the concept to roll out nationwide starting in March 2015.

Pizza Hut US is about to get a brand new flavor – dozens of them, actually – as part of its top-to-bottom brand relaunch Nov. 19.Starting then, customers will experience a range of toppings, crusts and sauces unlike anything Pizza Hut has offered to date. A few of the new options getting the biggest buzz? Pretzel Piggy, a bacon, mushroom and spinach delight served on a pretzel crust with a balsamic sauce drizzle.

Then there’s the Cock-a-Doodle Bacon, with creamy garlic Parmesan sauce, grilled chicken, bacon and diced Roma tomatoes.

And beyond new signature pizzas, customers have more toppings to choose from when ordering a custom pie, as well as six bold sauces, eight crust varieties and four sauce drizzles.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area is getting a wingman on wheels in October. Pizza Hut is taking wings to the streets with its first food truck, the WingStreet Wagon.

A wingman is typically a friend who helps someone find a date. Although the WingStreet Wagon team cannot help customers in dating, they can assist them in dining.

The truck’s menu will include traditional and bone-out wings in eight sauces, waffle fries and Pepsi products. It will offer additional flavors based on the seasons and special events.

The vehicle’s edgy design, which includes the clever one-liners, “A Good Wingman Always Delivers” and “Bold to the Bone,” was the brainchild of the brand’s creative agency partner TracyLocke.

“It really embodies the bold personality that WingStreet is targeting,” said Billy Thomas, Associate Brand Manager, Pizza Hut.

The WingStreet Wagon plans to visit community events, breweries and area college campuses. In addition to wings and waffle fries, the food truck will eventually offer cheese sticks, apple pie and more.

Once the Wing Street Wagon hits the road, customers will be able to keep up with its whereabouts on Twitter and Instagram by following @WingStreetWagon.

Pizza Hut South AfricaPizza Hut is bringing a slice of global value topped with Mzanzi tradition to South Africa, opening its first restaurant in Africa Sept. 18.

Located in Johannesburg, the restaurant features a modern design, digital menu boards and free Wi-Fi, as well as online ordering and delivery. In addition to the brand’s international favorites, the menu includes popular items that appeal to local taste preferences, such as Boerewors sausage and pizza made with Peri-Peri sauce.

“Africa is an emerging continent with more than one billion people and endless possibilities for us to grow Pizza Hut over the long-term,” said Scott Bergren, CEO, Pizza Hut and Chief Innovation Officer, Yum! Brands. “We’ve just scratched the surface of growth and we’re aggressively accelerating Pizza Hut’s development across the Delivery, Express, and Dine-In channels globally.”

“South Africa is a huge opportunity for Pizza Hut with its rapidly growing middle class and progressive consumers who love pizza,” said Randall Blackford, General Manager, Pizza Hut Africa. “We have a great team that knows how to do business in South Africa and we’re confident that it can become a sizeable business for Pizza Hut in the future.”

Pizza Hut plans to open more restaurants in South Africa in 2014, creating approximately 200 local jobs. Over the next three years, the company expects to open dozens of stores in the country, employing more than 2,500 people. In addition to growth in South Africa, the brand also plans to expand to Namibia, Angola and Zambia over the next year.

Pizza Hut Canada has won a 2014 bronze CLIO award, music digital/social category, for its 2013 “Dip Hop” campaign.”Dip Hop,” illustrated in the video below, combined 12 of the brand’s signature dipping sauces and a technology called Makey Makey to create a one-of-a-kind keyboard.

The CLIO awards are the world’s most recognized international awards competition for advertising, design, digital and communications. Other winners recognized in the music digital/social category include Pharrell, Samsung, Chipotle, and Converse.
